Rana Sanaullah pledges collaboration on sports with commonwealth nations


PARIS, Jul 25 (APP): The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan Thursday stressed Pakistan’s dedication to harnessing the power of sports to build a more inclusive and resilient society and looked forward to collaborating with fellow Commonwealth nations to share best practices, drive progress towards shared goals, and inspire a new generation of athletes and leaders.

In his remarks at the 11th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Conference in Paris, he expressed pride in sharing Pakistan’s full commitment to the theme “Building Inclusive and Resilient Societies through Sports”.

The adviser, with the status of federal minister has stated that the events of 11th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Paris highlights the power of sports to unite, inspire, and drive positive change in our societies.

He said the government has declared 2025 as the year of sports revival in Pakistan, with a dedication to promoting sports as a catalyst for social change. The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme was driving this initiative by ensuring full participation and harnessing the full potential of Pakistan’s youth.

In Pakistan, he said significant strides have been taken to ensure good governance and human rights in sports. A code of conduct and equal opportunity principles have been introduced, along with initiatives to promote gender equality and inclusivity in sports.

Recognising the importance of cross-sector collaboration to promote sports, partnerships have been established with the education, health, and youth development sectors to create a comprehensive sports ecosystem. The private sector and public-private partnerships are being encouraged to stimulate investment in sports, said the advisor said.

Rana Sanaullah said Pakistan envisioned a future where sports would be a cornerstone of the nation’s development. A commitment was made to make a valuable contribution to the Commonwealth Games, with planning for the 2026 Games already underway.

Ambassador of Pakistan to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also attended the event held on the sidelines of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
